I have a question about the calculation of the thickness of the drainage mortar. I have now had the calculation made on a thickness of 8 cm. Is this 8cm the drainage mortar under and between the grid or do I have to provide extra cm for under the grid? In addition, how many extra cm of drainage mortar should I add for the filling layer, given that the layer below is rubble?

The 8cm you calculated is indeed the drainage mortar under and between the grid. In addition, you must add an extra cm of drainage mortar for the filling layer. The amount of extra cm that you have to add for the filling layer depends on the flatness of the stone rubble. This can vary from 2cm to 5cm, so that the surface is nicely sloped. After placing the filling layer, you must therefore have 8 cm + glue + tiles left over everywhere.

  1. Calculate the thickness of the drainage mortar under and between the grid.
  2. Add extra cm of drainage mortar for the filling layer.
  3. The extra cm for the filling layer varies from 2cm to 5cm, depending on the flatness of the stone rubble.
  4. After placing the filling layer, you must have 8 cm + glue + tiles everywhere.
