Advice for laying insulation screed in your veranda extension

Discover how you can lay tileable insulation screed in your veranda extension. Learn how to deal with filling heights and how to connect to existing floor structures.

Is tileable insulation screed sufficiently load-bearing and even to directly glue tiles on?

Tileable insulation screed is indeed an insulating and load-bearing layer, but the surface is not perfectly smooth after installation. It is therefore recommended to apply a thin layer of leveling compound (with primer) to obtain a perfectly flat and even surface for gluing the tiles.

Is the Staenis slat suitable for a filling height of 18 cm?

The Staenis grid is designed for a maximum filling height of 13 cm. For a filling height of 18 cm, you could consider cutting a thick insulation board into cubes of 10x10 and placing it under the Staenis leg of 5-9 cm high.

How can I connect a new tileable insulation screed and any leveling screed to an existing floor structure?

To connect to the existing floor structure, you can place the new tileable insulation screed and any leveling screed at the same height as the existing screed. Place edge insulation between the 2 screeds so that they can live separately. You can then glue the new tiles to both the existing and the new screed and the silicone expansion joint at the transition of the 2 screed floors.
