Advice for Staenis Rooster, OSB Plates and Parquet Installation

Learn how to install a Staenis grid with insulation screed and OSB boards for a high-quality floor structure. Discover tips about parquet installation and more.

I am installing a Staenis grid with insulation screed on which 18mm OSB plates will be placed and a 15mm parquet as a floor finish. The surface consists of prefab concrete vaults without a concrete pressure layer or screed on top. The attic space is 8m long and 5.5m wide and is divided into a bedroom of 5.5m by 3m and an open space of 5.5m by 5m. Between the two spaces there is a (door) opening of 1m55 wide with a double sliding door. Do I have to interrupt the OSB plates, the parquet and the Staenis grille at the height of the sliding doors? Can the schedule continue in that case? Can I let everything go through since the total length is only 8m? Can the parquet be glued instead of floating?

It is recommended to interrupt both the OSB plates and the parquet at the level of the sliding doors in order to distribute the tensions and to install a high-quality floor structure. The Staenis grid is allowed to continue and can withstand the stresses. However, going through the grating, OSB plates and parquet is at your own risk, because we cannot estimate how much tension there is actually in the parquet. Solid parquet is a no go to glue on anyway. With composite parquet, the tensions are already a lot lower, but it remains at your own risk. Gluing the parquet can make it more stable and less subject to expansion, but it is important to take into account the tensions in the parquet and the possible consequences for the floor structure.

Do I have to interrupt the OSB boards and the parquet at the height of the sliding doors if I use a Staenis grille with insulation screed and 18 mm OSB boards, followed by a 15 mm parquet?

Yes, it is recommended to interrupt both the OSB plates and the parquet at the height of the sliding doors. This helps to distribute the tensions and ensures a high-quality floor structure. The Staenis grid is allowed to continue and can withstand the stresses.

Since the total length of the attic space is only 8 meters, can I have the grille, the OSB plates and the parquet continue through?

Although the total length is only 8 meters, it is still recommended to interrupt the OSB boards and parquet at the height of the sliding doors to distribute the tensions and to install a quality floor structure. The Staenis grid is allowed to continue and can withstand the stresses.

Can I glue the parquet instead of floating it to make it more stable and less subject to expansion?

In the case of solid parquet, gluing is not recommended in any case. With composite parquet, the tensions are already a lot lower, but it remains at your own risk, because we cannot estimate how many tensions there are actually in the parquet. It is important to take into account the specific properties of the parquet and follow the manufacturer's recommendations.
