Zulte, 4 May 2023 - With the new leveling grid from Staenis, do-it-yourselfers and small self-employed workers in the construction industry can lay 'leveling compound' even more easily and much cheaper. The innovative self-build system developed by the start-up guarantees a tight leveling layer and ensures a lot less stress during installation. After the largest European countries, Staenis now also wants to democratize the American construction market.

Laying a subfloor or a screed - 'screeding' in the vernacular - is something most do-it-yourselfers do not dare to do. Staenis has been changing that for a few years now. The East Flemish start-up has developed a system for quickly and easily installing a floor structure yourself. You place the grid, fill it with the right material and level it out. Because the grille remains in place, the risk of tears and cracks is also considerably smaller. In addition, the different sections of the grid make it possible to spread the floor structure over several days, which is not an option with the classic way of working.

Due to the simplicity and flexibility of the DIY grid, not only do-it-yourselfers and handymen use the system. Professional construction companies have also found their way to Staenis floors.

“The big difference is that you can now also level out the screed between 1 and 5 centimetres,” explains Tom Verstaen, co-founder of Staenis and former Belgian tile-setting champion. “Such thin smoothing layers used to be real specialist work. With our new leveling grid, we are also making it accessible to people without experience in the construction sector. A second important asset is that our system makes it possible to use ordinary screed instead of the much more expensive leveling compound. This makes the screed up to six times cheaper than traditional systems.”

80,000 square meters of Staenis floors

About 3,000 private individuals and professionals have already laid Staenis floors for more than 80,000 square meters (about twenty football fields). The customers are located in Belgium, the Netherlands, France and now also Germany and the United Kingdom.

In 2023, Staenis wants to further accelerate this international expansion, explains co-founder Daisy Bohyn.

“We want to double our growth this year to 1 million euros. We are currently in full talks to become active in the American market as well. In addition, we are strongly committed to sustainability and we also want to launch a new circular product.”

Easier and more efficient installation

Staenis introduces a new grating system called 'Staenis Equalization Grid' that considerably simplifies the placement of leveling compound and adhesive screed. With the ability to precisely adjust the height between 10mm and 50mm, this system makes it easier than ever to create a flat and stable surface for floor finishes.

The introduction of our roster system is a game changer for both professionals and do-it-yourselfers, says Tom Verstaen, Co-founder of Staenis. Not only does it make for a much easier and more efficient installation, but it also provides extra protection against cracks and tears in the floor finish.

Applications of leveling compound and adhesive screed

A self-levelling mortar, often used to correct irregularities in the floor and can be applied in thicknesses from 3mm to 50mm. Adhesive screed is an alternative to leveling compound and is used to fix screeds to concrete substrates, with a minimum thickness of 10 mm to 50 mm. Both materials are crucial for creating a solid and durable base for different types of floor finishes.

Innovative height control system

The Staenis grating system is designed to be easily adjusted in height, enabling installers to quickly and accurately achieve the desired thickness. In addition, the grid reinforces the substrate, which helps to better protect the floor finish against cracks and tears.

Material selection and cost savings

Although leveling compound is usually many times more expensive than adhesive screed, the Staenis grating system offers the option of using both materials, depending on the specific needs of the project. For example, installers can opt for an adhesive screed to save costs, while still benefiting from the benefits of the grating system.

Detailed instructions and tips

To make the installation of leveling compound and adhesive screed even easier, Staenis provides detailed instructions and tips for the preparation and installation of both materials. This includes using the correct primers and applying a bonding coat to bonded screed to ensure a strong bond with the concrete substrate.

The Staenis grating system is a valuable addition to any floor installer's toolbox, whether for professionals or do-it-yourselfers. Thanks to the simple installation, time savings and improved durability of the floor finish, this system ensures satisfied customers and a higher quality end result.
