EPS floor insulation: floor construction screed with insulation screed

EPS vloerisolatie

This floor construction with EPS floor insulation consists of 2 layers. This is because an insulation screed is installed under your screed, which functions as floor insulation. Insulation screed consists of EPS beads mixed with cement and additives. The lambda value of the EPS beads is low, which means that the material has a high insulating effect. This allows you to enjoy a pleasant floor temperature and thermal comfort in the home.

The insulation screed layer has a high load-bearing capacity, does not require any reinforcement for this application and has a seamless finish with less construction height, which is useful for renovations. This floor construction with insulation screed is ideal for your attic or bathroom, for example, but is also suitable for a ground floor or basement. View this floor structure with EPS floor insulation and discover the possible finishes. Minimum height of this floor structure: + 9.5 cm. Calculate at least 8 cm EPS to achieve the insulation values of 2 m²K/W.

EPS floor insulation to replace the concrete slab: screed with insulated concrete slab

EPS vloerisolatie ter vervaning betonplaat

With this floor construction, a concrete reinforcement and foil is placed, after which the space is filled with a layer of insulation screed of at least 15 cm thick. With a minimum of 15 cm EPS you will certainly achieve the insulation values of 2 m²K/W.

Combination of EPS floor insulation and PUR: floor construction screed with PUR floor insulation boards

EPS vloerisolatie met PUR isolatieplaten

With this floor construction with concrete slab for a ground floor or cellar, the substrate consists of PUR floor insulation (PUR slabs). The unevenness of the substrate and the pipes is leveled out with insulation screed. The insulation boards and screed are placed on the layer of insulation screed. Learn more about installing this floor structure with PUR floor insulation. Minimum height of this floor construction: + 12.5 cm. You will probably need 6 cm of EPS to level out just above the tubes. Place at least 2 cm PUR plates above this to achieve the insulation values of 2 m²K/W.

Good to know: Insulating your floor with insulation screed and PUR insulation boards has several advantages over sprayed PUR and screed. The thinner applied insulation screed is better for the environment, while the loosely placed PUR insulation boards can be reused later. In addition, the non-shrinking PUR insulation boards provide a more stable surface for screed. Et voilà, a flatter and more durable end result with a uniform thickness.

PUR floor insulation: floor construction screed with sprayed PUR

Sprayed PUR

With this floor construction with concrete slab for a ground floor or basement, the substrate consists of sprayed PUR floor insulation. A specialized company applies the PUR floor insulation under the screed. View the specifications of this floor construction with PUR floor insulation for more info.Minimum height of this floor construction: + 7.5 cm. With a minimum of 5 cm of sprayed PUR you can achieve insulation values of 2 m²K/W.

Attention: sprayed PUR floor insulation is harmful to the environment and your health. We do not recommend using sprayed polyurethane foam (PUR) as floor insulation, because of the serious health risks and the adverse effects for the environment. Sprayed PUR floor insulation can release volatile organic compounds (VOC) and degrade indoor air quality. This can lead to respiratory irritation, allergic reactions and other health problems. In addition, the production process is harmful to the environment. Look out for responsible alternatives to sprayed PUR floor insulation, such as ecological floor insulation (cellulose fibres, hemp or flax fibres) and mineral wool. EPS floor insulation and XPS floor insulation are also more environmentally friendly options.
