Can I install underfloor heating in combination with insulation screed?
Yes, but it depends on the floor build-up. In standard insulation screed, do not install a wet underfloor heating system in the insulating layer. Choose a dry underfloor heating system on top of a suitable board build-up, or a wet system in screed.
Note: a dry underfloor heating system does not automatically mean it is an electric system. Dry systems are usually installed on top of the floor build-up without embedding the heating pipes in wet screed.
If you are using tileable insulation screed with tiles, you can bond an electric underfloor heating mat after the layer is fully dry and primed, then install the tiles. Always follow the instructions from the manufacturer of the electric underfloor heating, primer, tile adhesive, and tile finish.
The insulating layer limits downward heat loss, so the heat is mainly emitted upward through the tiles.
