Installation Guide: Electric Underfloor Heating & Natural Stone Floor

Learn how to install electric underfloor heating with a decoupling mat, PUR insulation, a Staenis leveling grid and natural stone. Follow our step-by-step guide.

How can I install electric underfloor heating with a decoupling mat and 3 cm PUR insulation in combination with a Staenis leveling grid and natural stone in Roman bond, taking into account a total floor structure of 10 cm?

To install electric underfloor heating with a decoupling mat and 3 cm PUR insulation in combination with a Staenis leveling grid and natural stone in Roman bond, you can follow the following steps:

  1. First place the 3 cm PUR insulation on the existing floor.
  2. Install the Staenis leveling grid on top of the PUR insulation, with a minimum height of 4.5 cm to create a non-adhesive screed. Please note that the feet of the leveling grid are narrower and may press into the insulation plates. Pay close attention to this during installation.
  3. Glue the decoupling mat to the screed with the Staenis leveling grid.
  4. Place the electric underfloor heating (cable and decoupling mat) on top of the decoupling mat.
  5. Finish the floor with natural stone in a Roman bond, taking into account the total floor structure of 10 cm.

For more information about the floor structure, please consult this link: https://www.staenis.com/Floors/Screed08

Should I place the electric underfloor heating above or below the Staenis leveling grid with a floor structure of 8 cm + 2 cm natural stone in Roman bond and 3 cm unilin Pur insulation?

You must glue the decoupling mat with the electric underfloor heating to the screed with the Staenis leveling grid. First place the 3 cm unilin Pur insulation and make sure that the Staenis leveling grid is at least 4.5 cm high to create a non-adhesive screed. You can then place the underfloor heating and finish it with the natural stone. Note that the feet of the leveling grate are narrower and may depress into the insulation boards, but this should not normally be a problem if you pay attention.
