Yes, it is possible to keep a floor structure as low as possible with our Staenis leveling grid. The slats of this grid are only 1 cm high, but can be adjusted to a maximum height of 5.5 cm. For a drain of 40 mm over a distance of 45 cm, you can make recesses in the black intermediate pieces. If something comes loose, you can glue it back with tile adhesive. The leveling grid will arm the screed. Once the screed is 5 cm thick, you do not need to bond the screed to the concrete slab, so you could place another foil under it if possible or desired.
